Even with the multiple sizes available, there are occasions that our standard wall-mounted HVAC systems aren't a perfect fit for the application. For these, we offer several additional configuration options in our InPac and AirPak product lines.
Both product lines can be manufactured in a reverse airflow configuration as well, which moves the return air to the top and supply air down lower on the wall mounted cabinet. This configuration is particularly useful in high heat load applications such as VFD buildings.
Specific Systems® alternate configurations utilize the same industrial grade components as our standard vertical wall mounted HVAC systems. This continuity of parts gives us the ability to quickly provide drawings during the design phase as well as provide any parts even years after the sale.
Specific Systems® roof mounted InPac systems are typically horizontal in design. The systems are mounted to a skid, and our engineering team will work with you to meet the specifications of the roof curb on your building.
The supply and return can be independently arranged prior to manufacture to meet the needs of the application to flow through the end, sides, or bottom of the industrial HVAC system.
As one of our most popular options, pad mounting is best used on permanent structures and when wall space is at a premium. The included duct mate flanges help minimize wall perforations and let you choose points of entry that meet the requirements for each building individually, which works even better on the larger 35-50 ton unit sizes.
Pad mounted systems can be ordered in a vertical arrangement similar to our standard configuration or a horizontal configuration similar to the roof mounted units, but with the following changes:
Like the rooftop versions, pad (or slab) mounted InPac systems are mated to a hot-dipped galvanized steel skid with industrial strength combination lifting/mounting lugs.
Much like a typical residential HVAC system, InPac environmental control units can be ordered in a configuration that separates the condenser and evaporator sections for mounting in different areas of an enclosure.
Like the example shown here, split systems can be ordered with different materials to match the corrosion resistant needs of the application.
Particularly useful when installed on a blast-resistant building, the walk-in plenum option gives you the ability to place a blast damper in the wall, helping to prevent unnecessary cutouts while maintaining the safety requirements for these hazardous applications.
Service plenums are designed to provide a fully insulated area for the supply air above the area where the controls are housed.
All interior components can still be accessed through removable panels inside the service plenum, just as with our standard vertical wall-mounted design.
Upblast plenums are commonly used when air is being ducted inside the building and the ducts are above cable trays. Our modular design allows the blowers to be easily configured during manufacture to move air upwards into either an attached plenum or exterior ductwork.
Each plenum is manufactured from the same material as the base system, and includes integrated turning vanes and insulation which also helps to improve sound levels from the supply air.

Our reverse airflow configuration moves the return air to the top of the unit, while the supply air is relocated lower in the cabinet.
As mentioned at the top of the page, this configuration can help maintain dynamic airflow in the enclosure since heat naturally rises. In high heat load applications like VFD buildings, much of the heat is exhausted through tops of the enclosure, with cool air designed to be drawn in from the bottom of the process controls inside the building.
As with the InPac line, our AirPak reverse airflow configuration moves the return air to the top of the unit, while the supply air is relocated lower in the cabinet.
This configuration can help maintain dynamic airflow in the enclosure since heat naturally rises. In high heat load applications like VFD buildings, much of the heat is exhausted through tops of the enclosure, with cool air designed to be drawn in from the bottom of the process controls inside the building.
AirPaks with reverse airflow utilize an industrial grade dual shafted evaporator motor with two forward curved blowers instead of the standard backwardly inclined impellers.
At Specific Systems®, we manufacture HVAC specifically designed for the modular building industry. Our industrial systems can be used on any of the building/enclosure types below, and fit just as well on static structures as they do on modular buildings.
